What experience does StereoMan have?Trained for electronics in the U.S. Navy, Steve’s electronics career includes ten years in two-way radio and five years in Common Carrier (the precursor to cellphones).

Steve started repairing stereo equipment in 1986, working as an independent contractor for Gibbs Radio Company. He subsequently provided service for three other local shops, as well as developing a personal clientele for StereoMan.

Steve has repaired thousands of stereo components, installed hundreds of car stereos and home theaters, and maintains several commercial Public Address systems, as well as the on-board sound systems for Asheville’s most popular tour bus line – Gray Line Tours – and its most unusual – LaZoom!

Steve is grateful to all of his clientele for making 2011 his best year ever, and 2012 is going even better!

Why does Stereoman do this work? Steve delights in the mental challenges as well as the craft of repair and installation, and the pleasure of working in a situation that requires him to listen to music constantly. He derives great satisfaction from knowing that his work is providing lasting enjoyment to his clientele. And just as importantly, Steve takes his environmental stewardship very seriously, making every effort to keep perfectly good equipment out of the landfill.

* A few cars are slightly higher due to cost of special trim kit or wire harness. StereoMan will always let you know in advance if there is any additional cost. A few cars don’t require a trim kit, and in that case StereoMan will charge you less!

StereoMan’s labor rate is a mere $36 per hour! Most car stereos can be installed for a charge of $30-$36. Routine maintenance and repair of stereo components typically runs in the $25 to $50 range. If it’s going to be more, you’ll get a call first!

Despite having to increase his travel rate due to ever-higher prices at the pump, StereoMan’s travel charge is still a very reasonable $10 for the first 5 miles (one way) and $2.00 per mile thereafter.

StereoMan listed this near mint condition Pioneer SX-850 receiver on 10/13/2011. This beautiful specimen went for $326, about 10% higher than the highest price usually fetched for this model.
